GLENVIEW, IL – Kohl Children’s Museum has partnered with Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital and Advocate Hope Children’s Hospital to transform the Museum’s Doll Day Care exhibit into a brand new, 300 sq. ft. Baby Nursery. With generous support from Advocate, the permanent Baby Nursery exhibit encourages the care of healthy and ill ‘babies’ with a range of dolls, pretend medical tools and equipment by introducing care-taking behavior at a young age. The Baby Nursery opens to the public, Tuesday, May 31.

“This new exhibit and valuable partnership with Kohl Children’s Museum reflects our continued dedication and commitment to the care, education and well being of children, says Anthony A. Armada, FACHE, President of Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital. “The Baby Nursery is an investment that will help both children and families better deal with medical environments such as a hospital. We’re proud to provide a place where tomorrow’s doctors and health professionals can be inspired at a young age.”

The softly lit two-area exhibit features both a baby nursery and doll day care center that contain a variety of hospital and nursery-related items scaled for children. Children can dress in lab coats and use tools such as stethoscopes, otoscopes, syringes, reflex hammers and an X-ray viewer, to diagnose, and treat baby doll patients. The exhibit aims to teach children to respect and care for others, as well as ease fears about illness and anxiety associated with visiting the doctor or hospital.

“We are delighted to be working with Advocate’s Children’s Hospitals on this beneficial addition to the Museum,” said Sheridan Turner President and CEO of Kohl Children’s Museum. “Our visitors will have the opportunity to explore, learn and interact in a nursery setting that will help prepare them for caring for new additions to the family or a visit to the hospital.
