GLENVIEW, IL – Young “peep-le” looking to get a first crack at Spring will delight in the annual seasonal “eggs-hibit” Eggs to Chicks at the Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago March 17–May 11, 2009. Featuring a special child-height egg incubator, hatchery unit and a pen for newborn chicks, Eggs to Chicks provides an “eggs-citing” and memorable educational opportunity for children. With more than 200 eggs being hatched at the Museum, the delivery and incubation times of the eggs ensure there will always be new chicks hatching any given week for the duration of the exhibit.

This year’s Eggs to Chicks exhibit offers a few changes from years past. Three different strains of chickens will be used to allow children to observe and note differences in color and behavior of the breeds. In addition to the common Babcock strain, which produces the familiar yellow chicks, guests will also see rare Black Java and White Java strains, which were endangered species earlier this decade. Kohl Children’s Museum partners with Garfield Farm Museum in suburban La Fox in their endeavor to help repopulate the species.

In addition, chicks hatched will be donated to Heifer International at the close of the exhibit to help Midwest families fight poverty.

“The Eggs to Chicks exhibit is a very special attraction for children,” said Sheridan Turner, President and CEO of the Museum. “Children learn the art of observation and are rewarded for their patience and attention as the young chicks break out of their shells, fluff their feathers, and begin the life process. Guests will also get a valuable conservation lesson about the importance of protecting species.”
