FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
October 15, 2009

GLENVIEW, IL – Every child will be a winner at the 3rd annual “Turkey Trot” family festival held Sunday, Nov. 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Kohl Children’s Museum in Glenview, Ill. This year’s festival brings a morning of family fun to the Museum with a variety of games, arts and crafts, live musical entertainment, bounce houses, food and exercise.

As part of the Turkey Trot event, children of all ages will walk a course around Habitat Park, the Museum’s outdoor exhibit. Each participant will receive a runner number, stickers for each lap they complete and a golden turkey trophy for their efforts. There will be several courses, each divided by age group. All attendees will also receive free access to the Museum that day.

Warm-ups will be held from 9:30 to 10 a.m. before the trot is kicked off. Live musical entertainment will be provided by popular children’s act Stand and Clap throughout the event. Delicious breakfast foods, coffee, juice and healthy snacks will be provided. The “Turkey Trot” will take place rain or shine.

To participate, families can sign up at www.kohlchildrensmusuem.org/trot. Tickets purchased in advance are $35 per family (up to 6 members) and $45 per family at the door.

More than 100 families are expected to participate in the “Turkey Trot,” which was designed by the Women’s Board of Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago.

“The Museum is making great strides with developing programming to promote healthy lifestyles for children,” says Museum President & CEO Sheridan Turner. “We’re excited to offer a fun family event that also includes an element of learning about fitness.”

The event, chaired by Jenny Grady and Carmen Echols, both of Wilmette, is expected to raise $20,000 for the Museum. These funds will support the Museum’s community outreach programs, which bring early childhood learning expertise and interactive exhibits to metropolitan Chicago classrooms, childcare sites and other organizations serving young children.
