Let's Play Railway
On Exhibit: September 30, 2008-May 4, 2009
Let’s Play Railway!, a giant replica of BRIO’s famous wooden toy Engine, Cattle Wagon and Caboose, will pull into Kohl Children’s Museum on September 30, 2008. Children and adults will find fun, hands-on activities that encourage learning through play when they climb aboard this interactive exhibit.
Things to Do:
- Little engineers will have fun using levers, dials, buttons and cranks that trigger realistic sound effects in the Engineer's Cab.
- The Engine’s Cowcatcher Xylophone let's children play familiar tunes or create musical patterns.
- Turning the crankshaft in Piston Power will make colorful characters pop in and out of pretend pistons that power the train on its imaginary journey.
- The Cattle Wagon carries precious cargo – a pretend pony and cow for children to tend.
- In Farmer's Field, children can harvest corn from the field, store it in a kid-sized silo, or feed it to their new farm friends.
- Little farm hands can listen and sing along to the tune of "Old MacDonald."
- A Caboose at the end of the line includes a wheel entrance and a mirror where children can see themselves climbing through.
- Once inside, children can pull levers and turn wheels in On the Right Track to guide a ball along a special track with a surprise ending!
- Play tables in Workin' On the Railroad feature BRIO's popular Wooden Railway and Builder Systems that let children build and create.
- Wheel Activities built into the train’s giant wheels complement the exhibit and provide endless opportunities for play.
Learning Outcomes:
- Encourage imagination, creativity and dramatic play.
- Promote gross and fine motor skill development.
- Support language development and enhance critical thinking.
- Motivate listening, patience, and communication.
