Kohl Children's Pop-Up Museum offers free admission in Waukegan
The Kohl Children’s Pop-Up Museum will make its return to Waukegan during February and March at the College of Lake County Lakeshore Campus, 111 N. Genesee St. The Pop-Up will operate from February 1 through March 21 and offers free public hours on Thursdays from 5 – 7 pm, Fridays from 12 – 4 pm and Saturdays from 9 am – 2 pm. On weekday mornings, the Pop-Up will open exclusively for scheduled field trips, also provided at no charge.
This year’s Pop-Up will include several new exhibit elements making their debut at this location:
• Build It!: Discover engineering concepts with various types of building blocks, gears, pulleys and other construction tools
• Young Paleontologists: Explore a naturalist’s tent featuring field equipment with which children can explore fossils
• Tech Play Lab: Create and problem solve using programmable robots
A fully-stocked art studio and a reading nook will complete the Pop-Up.
This is the third visit to Waukegan for the Pop-Up, which last year also traveled to Round Lake Beach and North Chicago/Great Lakes to bring hands-on experiences similar to the offerings at Kohl Children’s Museum’s home location in Glenview. “The Pop-Up Museum is key part of our access and inclusion efforts,” said Vice President of Programs Stephanie Bynum. “We are so thankful to partner with College of Lake County Lakeshore Campus to provide this space so local children and families can enjoy high-quality, hands-on educational programming close to home.”
During its two previous appearances in Waukegan, the Pop-Up welcomed nearly 4,000 guests during public hours, and more than 3,300 visitors on field trips. Added Bynum, “Given the outstanding response to our previous appearances, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue making an impact in the Waukegan area by bringing some new exhibit components like our Tech Play Lab to compliment proven favorites like the art studio!”
Fun “Learn at Home” activity sheets will be supplied to encourage families to continue the hands-on learning after they leave the pop-up experience. Field trips can be scheduled by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org or calling (847) 832-6918.
